The way I worked around it as such is I added in the code for checking if bags are full or the code for deleting junk items at waypoints that I noticed the pet getting behind, usually where there are groups of 4+ mobs together.
What this does is make the bot stop at that waypoint even for just half a second instead of just moving through the waypoints without hessitation. This gave the pet just enough time to get the loots and wasn't getting left behind.
You can of course do a distance check to pet as it is a pawn like any other object/mob in the game but for me I just decided to not worry about that as it could be looting at your feet the 8 mobs you just killed and then you run off to the next waypoint and pet gets left behind anyway.
I guess the ideal way would be to determine distance to pet and then also determine how many lootable mobs are within XX range of the pet and if X+ mobs then pause for a second. A lot of work involved for that and I don't really have the time for it lol
