Some drop tests

I did a bit of testing to see how drop rates are affected by different things with some expected and unexpected results. The tests are far from extensive but they are enough to show some interesting patterns.

First, the conditions of the tests:
  • All tests were done in the same place with the same waypoint file and the same profile settings. The waypoint file was just a simple kill wp file in an area with very fast respawning mobs. Loot filtering was switched off and all items were collected. The tests went for 30m or until the bags were full. Start and end times were used to calculate averages. Some of the tests were done more than once.
The raw data:
  • I don't know how to display Excel info here so I've attached the file.
    Drop Test Results.xlsx
    (16.48 KiB) Downloaded 289 times
Analysis:
  • I’m no data analysis expert but I can draw some obvious conclusions from the data.

    1. Being in a party with a level 11 or a level 73 character made no difference to the results. As long as you are in a party, you receive the benefit.
    2. Having extra luck made no difference to the daily item drop rate but being in a party did. But it behaved strangely. It seems that as long as you have some luck, any amount, your daily drop rate doubled when in a party.
    3. If you have no luck then being in a party had no effect. So the benefit of being in a party must be the effect it has on luck.
    4. Being in a party seems to affect different things differently. With items, arrows and projectiles being in a party seems to multiply the luck by 10. Whereas with mana and hp pots the multiple seems about 5.

I don't think the data is enough to make any more conclusion but I thought the above was interesting enough to post this. Hopefully this will clear some misconceptions about drop rates.
One last thing, I was doing some KS runs and did a bit of a test of the difference between Honor Parties and regular Parties. I didn't see any difference. So that's another unexpected result.

wow...those are some interesting results....I've been meaning to log some metrics around that sort of thing too - I generally do minis / dailys / events throughout the day and then run KS overnight (usually crash at some point tho, so not running 24x7).

I found a huge difference between honor party and normal party when in KS.

I didn't test it much. I'll do better testing next time. Now that I'm doing KS, it will be easy to test it properly.

I also do notice a huge difference between a honor party and a normal party.
But you can minimize the difference by adding 1/2/3 loot III runes. Which will almost fill the 5 and a half bags most of the time.

Anyways, you'll still need a inactive player/client to make a party with. (We used to do Char A + Egg Botter, but since you cant bot golden eggs anymore.)

Any other instance needs to be tested too. (Ill get to that this week)
TT is quite easy for a lvl 70-75 mage with purgatory fire. But there's the "cleaning bat" issue.
HotO looks promising too.
HoS not so much (yet). (Lvl 75 mages with 75 staff will hit 1kk-1,5kk per flame... so you can do the last boss in less than 60 seconds)

The average for Honor Party is 3,529,045. The average for normal parties is 3,658,287. So it actually averaged better with a normal party, although it's probably statistically insignificant.

If you guys are sure your tests indicated that Honor Parties are better then maybe it's because normal parties only affects luck, as my previous tests indicated. Is it possible that your conclusion is based on results you've seen when having little or no luck? Maybe Honor parties provide some benefit even with no luck whereas normal Parties provide none? I never tested Honor Parties with no luck.

My tests were with just loot rune (I think 1, cant remamber for sure) and no other luck. Mage/Druid
I never bothered to lvl up housemaids for every char on private server.

Me neither. Although I do have a leveled housemaid and did use luck pots with those first tests, this last test I didn't get any luck pots so they are only with the loot runes. 240% luck in total.

I guess I could do a few runs with less luck to see if I see a difference with Hono0r parties. I'll see if I can fit it in later.

My numbers:
Normal Party (Rogue 70 in Kalin with a Mage 70 in his home): 3 loot III runes + Housemaid pot = 640k gold per hour. Stops before the jump for locatha, usually not full. Going any further doesn't give me more gold per hour.
Honor Party (Rogue 70 in Kalin with a Mage 1 in his home: 3 loot III runes + Housemaid pot + Honor party = 1.100k (1,1kk) gph. Full sometimes before the first boss and sometimes 3-4 mobs after.

Done in official server. Maybe the private servers got other loot rules.

Well obviously, it's better with the party. The discusion was whether Honor parties are better than regular parties.

I think you misunderstood emcagi.
640 kgold/h was in party with level 70 mage
1,1 kgold/h was in Honor party with level 1 mage

I also find honor party almost twice better then regular party on KS.
But i think it works different then drop rate bonus.
I think it lowers your level to the level of killed mob when calculating drop.
Why i think so?
Because of production runes drop.
When you are lower level then mobs you can get up to 3 production runes from 1 loot.
When you are aproximately the same level you get only 1 production rune.
When you are higher level you get no production runes at all, no matter what's your drop rate bonus.
When you are higher level then mob but in a honor party you get 1 production rune.

My first guess was that lower luck is affected more by Honor Parties than normal parties but now I'm not so sure. 3 loot III and house pot is enough luck that you should be getting similar results to me. I wouldn't have thought so but maybe you are right and the private servers are using different rules.

Thinking about kkulesza theory.

In Redhill there are a level 65 mob, the Domesticated Boshi, i kill it with a 58 level knight with no problems and the boshis give me 2-3 production runes each kill. With honor party it gives me 0-1. Probably means that the honor party makes the drop be as if my knight were level 65 too.

We can do more tests, but probably thats the correct theory.

Sorry for my bad english. It's too early to think in other language.

Well HPt gives huge boost to the drop, as it as mentioned before makes drop rate of mobs at the low lvl char. The funny thing is that it works best in instances.... As for KS HPt for 55 lvl char gives something about 0-5% more G/H, with 56 it is something about 5-10%, with 57 about 20%, and with 65 about 100%. I suppose full boost would be at 60 lvl. As for private serv - drop rate is usually higher, than also HPt gives less or even nothing.

Currently my best G/H ratio is 2,2M during 75% event, usually it is 1-1,4M/H with HPt, without HPt it is even more changeable 400-750k (on hi lvl char), with 55 lvl char it would be 1-1,2M/h.

My G/H on the private server is currently about 4.1M/H with my M/S just using 2 loot runes for luck and a normal party. :D

Well I think we can not compare, as 4,1M/H would be hard to obtain in normal server. My personal record (manual farm) is 6M+/H with 2x loot II, +16 wings, frog pet (10%), two pets (20%), normal hi lvl pet (5%), event (100%), IS pot (100%), housemaid pot (75%), so over 400% in total. Of course with title 10% movement speed, using 50% from wars, autosell addon and galloping gale+flying mount.

Also on normal serv X%≠X%, as different buffs has different impact.... From my personal exp the best are pots from IS (wondering why? :P ), as even 30% gives something about 75 from housekeeper. Less giving would be rouge skill. Frogster is also messing up with loot since CHIV premiere. I suppose, that with current drop buff I can have it would be easy, to get 3-4M/H with bot and 10M+ manually, at the drop lvl form CHIII.

I did mention it was the private server, rom4u actually. I don't even know why I mentioned it. Just talking I guess.

Your efforts are impressive. I can't really be bothered making so much of an effort to max luck. I usually can't even be bothered going to my house to pick up some luck potions. The Loot X runes are easy enough to get from the item shop and provide 240% luck just there, and are permanent continuous luck. I don't really like temporary luck. I'd get wings but no one sells plussed wings for some reason in the AH. If I can get a Constellation pet it might be nice. It's temporary (3h a day) but at least I don't have to go somewhere to stock up, it will be with me all the time.

Out of the other things you mentioned, I don't really like consumables. I have a frog pet but couldn't be bothered taking it out for only 10%. I actually have my egg pet with 5% luck only because it is out all the time collecting my loot so why not use that 5% luck but it's a cheap egg. I actually did get a disk (fastest mount in the game) for my mage. Gallopping Gale is actually not a bad idea. I don't think I ever got my housekeepers skill high enough to get them. I stopped at 48 I think. Of course if I level it to 50 to get those potions it would reduce the odds of getting luck potions and it only lasts 3 minutes so you would have to use one every trip. Doesn't really seem worth it.

Re: Some drop tests

by Budzer
Well while botting I think it doesn't actually matter that you have to use some potion once in a while, as it would do it automatic :P Same with housekeeper, as bot can pick up potions itself.

As for galloping gale you can have more housekeepers (few more hour of botting to buy 1-2 of them)... It also gives much more when farming manually, as one run would be 6-7mins and round 1-1,5 of that outside, so decreasing it by 20-30s would reduce one run time and by this G/H ratio by 7-8%, so round 1 run/hour more. With bot it gives about half that, so it could be not worth efforts.

Re: Some drop tests

I'm not sure about those numbers. Galloping gale is only useful while mounted. How long do you actually spend riding? Certainly not enough to save 20-30s. It would be around a minute riding. You are not going to reduce that by half. You might get 20-30 if you use galloping gale and speed pots but it would depend how long your full run is, the longer the more benefit you get. Mine is about 6m for a full run. I wouldn't get 20-30s.
