What I found out about the particle system was wrong, the reason ROM keeps crashing is when the redboot dwarf hill npc's spawn around in battlefield of steel (Redhill Mountain).

I've tested different combinations of which folders was causing the crash and it was the skills folder.

if your still testing try removing all the polygon folders from skills. I noticed in the original removespelleffects they never added in the polygon files, not sure why.

Removing the polygon folders from skills fixed the problem. It works fine now.

I'll remove them and change the file on first post, I'll also add the file for the black annoying stuff in butterfly land to it aswell.

I still don't know which is file for the portal, unfortunately the only way to test it is if there is an actual portal on screen and I don't exactly have a few hundred portals to waste lol

Honestly never use them either.

tried to find a way to open the .ros files to get a better idea of which files are for which skills, since the names don't really seem to mean much. Failed miserably though, best I came up with was a 3d engineering program and it probably costs a fortune.

ya, unfortunately "Machinima Studio" doesn't show the fx folders. I've been able to remove some files with it such as banners and flags. Seems to have reduced my lag in Delanis a bit with just those models removed.

I'd like to use your file, but there are some skill effects that I don't really want gone so I'm a little hesitant.

Found this info on the RoM forum:
Transport portal should come back by deleting the following files:

model\fx\skill\earth\act_transport_door*.*

model\fx\skill\earth\_polygon\nor_ea_transport*.*

model\fx\skill\earth\_particle\nor_ea_transport*.*

Good job lisa, just wondering if its possible to hide those zone names poping up, like "Thunderhoff Hills, Dalanis Old District etc". Those cause lagg for me :/

I'd say it's more likely that you are getting lag because you are changing zones, not because a bit of text appears on the screen. After all, do you get lag when other system messages appear?

I dont get lag when other messages pop up, you are right, its because of I'm changing zones. But is there a way to hide those zone names anyway?

both topics you posted the same question in were a year old.
The files posted were of the game content from a year ago and won't be the best option with the latest game files...

Removing the zone names popping up won't reduce the lag in any way, changing zones is why you have the lag and that is because your PC is loading all the info for the new zone.
