Questions on Banning

#1 Post by b2051248 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 3:57 pm

I've been using your bot for quite a while now. I really love it. Thank you!

I just have a quick question about getting banned, and I hope that you'll know the answers.

Does anyone know how Frogster bans people? Let me explain. I have read that they ban only by account, but I have also heard that they sometimes ban by IP address. This does not seem likely (since it is easy to change your IP), but my paranoia of losing my real accounts (the ones I don't bot on) has keep me from botting from the same IP as the one that I play on. Is this a legitimate concern?

Thanks

No, if you use different ip and account theres no way you would get banned with you main account even if a game master saw you botting. There is allso no chance of micromacro botters to get caught by anti cheat software because it only reads program memory. Anti virus and anti spyware programs read process memories too. only way to get autobanned (meaning not by GM but the software) is if micromacro were blacklisted, and programs dont get blacklisted very easily. And, this bot is not that widely used, so no interest.

Your account is safe!

i got banned before. Basically, someone has to report you multiple times. I started out with lv1 hunting fungus->beetles->wolf then moves to varanas killing more wolfs->dragonfly and banned right there at lv17. According to GM after i got banned, there are 5 people who submitted ticket asking them to check on me for botting.

Just find a seclude area where you dont see many people walking around and bot there.

Thanks guys, that makes me feel a lot better.

Am I still just as safe if I use different accounts but the same IP? I would think so, but would like to hear from someone more knowledgeable on the subject. I feel that I would still be safe because there could (potentially) be thousands of people using the same IP. I work at a public institution that houses a few thousands residents. I know that to the outside world, everyone on that network has the same IP. So I would think that there would be no way to determine if two accounts from the IP were related (except for by MAC address - which can be spoofed). Does that sound reasonable?

I doubt you would get IP banned for your first offense. If they want to IP ban you, though, they would probably first check your IP range to determine what kind of connection it is. Typically, a home connection wouldn't have more than a few users.

Ah, I didn't think of that. Do you think they would go through and ban all accounts that recently used that IP?

For botting, they would probably ban all accounts that used that IP, yes.

Since I get a dynamic IP from my ISP, is it reasonable to think that I could just get a new IP every [insert time period] to avoid such a scenario?

Yes, but that may not be completely effective. They could IP range or hardware ban you still.

I can only assume you will be permanantly banned for botting. I've never been banned from RoM on any of my accounts, so I wouldn't know for sure.

What do you mean by hardware ban?

A hardware ban is when they record a hash of hardware serial numbers of parts in your computer and use that to keep track of you. Again, this isn't all that successfull as you only need to install special software to change this information. This is very rarely done in games and would require you doing something much worse than botting to get banned this way.

Thanks for the tips. I have found a simpler solution to the IP problem. I'm just going to SSH Tunnel to somewhere, when I'm botting.

i really dont think they care about botters in this game. I have seen the same people in the same spots for days/weeks at a time and they are not even banned. Frogster is more worried about keeping the game alive and earning money than really catching botters. They only seem to get mad when you try and make money off the game by selling items for money
