Whatever you want here. Just make sure it's off topic. Which...I guess if the topic is being off topic, then it means you should be on topic. Understand?

Minecraft

#1 Post by BlubBlab » Fri Jan 09, 2015 3:41 am

I played that game since a while from time to time.
I didn't jumped into it when I saw it the first because of the crapy graphics.
The game became cult so most of you will know it. I had never in any game so much freedom the closet experience is when you hacked in D2 you own impossible equip, there are multiply clones like Brick Force or Minecraft in space which have all the some graphic.

In theory when you would add more MMO elements and a higher detail level with better graphic it would kick ass every MMO out there.
Its only an idea but I hope I have some spare time to dive into blender the next weeks.

I'm not sure what will hock me more making/finishing the bot for DP or trying to write my own Minecraft clone with a real engine and better graphics.

I think Minecraft has several weeks points there are multiple mod interfaces which a under concurrence with each other, the graphic engine is self written in Java which make it terrible slow.
I know this would be a very ambitious project which would take months when not even years to go close to complete.
What I thought what I should add made different:

On the software side:
Use c/c++ with blender.
Give a add-on interface.(Blender has Python)
allow to upload you own character model.(like Track Mania)

Content:
+ Mailbox
+ Portal between locations on the map.
+ More endboss enemies
+ some D2/3 like random generated dungeons with bosses but in 3D
+ Maybe an actionhouse
+ more monster types.
+ more rpg like stat system
+ more recipes for equip perhaps later AA like ships and cars.
+ player written quests.

In theory I could endless add stuff ~~.

Okay so I start:
Make some tutorial games with Blender.
Find out how I can made a dynamically expending world inside of the Blender Engine.
Jack-of-all-trades, but master-of-only of a few :D

You might look into using Unity for a game engine. It is pretty feature-full, easy to use, and there is plenty of tutorials available for it.

I know Unity its main advantage is that it can deploy for multiply platforms at the same time but you need a licence when you want include to external dlls and stuff like that.

Blender has a game engine too perhaps not so fancy but completely open-source
